Thursday Evening-

The tradition of Phil’s BBQ on Thursday night before the IHLGF was a tradition born from greatness. Phil’s is one of the most famous BBQ joints in San Diego, and its success will be self evident upon any visit. It is a very large restaurant, where seats cannot be reserved. It will be packed. Simply get in line and order at the counter, the hostess will be aware of our party and do their best to accommodate us. As for advice upon ordering, go with the baby back ribs and onion rings, but everything is fantastic, you can’t go wrong.
Friday Evening-
Place- The Hamburger Factory in Poway CA
After Friday afternoons events at the thermal field, all pilots and their families are encouraged to join the group at the hamburger factory. The facilities are great for our large group. They open a large back room/wing for us. We all get to sit and dine together, but the tables are long and slender. So when you get there, grab a new guy and insert him between a few veterans. Sitting between Bruce, Seid,, and Oleg is guaranteed to be a great time.

Saturday Evening-
Pizza Party at Round Table Pizza-
Saturday evening is one of the best social events of the week. We all get together and go to the local pizza joint for an all you can eat pizza and salad buffet. It is a cheap meal at $10. The best part is that Saturdays scores are past around the venue and the day is retold from the 75 different angles it was experienced from. The contest scores will be available immediately on field, posted after each round; however the final rounds scores will be withheld until the pizza party. Don’t forget your beer money.

Sunday-
After the contest on Sunday, many of the contestants travel a few miles north up the 15 freeway to Onami Japanese buffet. The food is fantastic and the environment, cool and clean. It is a perfect way to cool down after the contest. One of my best memories of John Erickson was sitting next to him and Lex after the 2008 IHLGF. I hope you earn some memories there too.

1- a Friday Lunch trip to Stone Brewery, one of San Diegos most famous micro brews.
2- A Friday late afternoon AULD fest, WAG style with Alulas.
