Contest

  • The IHLGF will feature FAI F3K tasks for 2009. There will be limited modifications to the F3K Rules. While the no fly zone is still enforced, the re orientation of the field and pilots box makes the NFZ a concern of the past. The slermal hill has been virtually eliminated with the new location. We are excited about the contest and the new pilot perspective change offers. The 2010 Task list will be published before the contest.

  • There will be two classes of pilots this year: Open and Sportsman. Special award recognition will be given to the top placing Junior (18 and under), and top placing  Eagle (55 and better). Each class will have their own set of awards. Open class will have awards through 10th place and the Sportsman class will have plaques through 3rd place.

  • Special information: The IHGLF, in remembrance of our friend and long time IHLGF participant and DLG enthusiast John Erickson’s recent passing, will be permanently memorializing and dedicating the first place sportsman trophy in memory of John Erickson.  The John Erickson Award will be engraved on the Sportsman Trophy for 2010 and beyond.   John has a special history with the IHLGF and we are proud to remember him this way.

  • Special information for the first time IHLGF sportsman pilot: The highest placing first time sportsman pilot will be be recognized with new DLG. This award is for the first time registrant in the sportsman class. All ages qualifiy. Sportsman registrants will be reviewed by the committee.

The following guidelines are provided  for pilots considering registering as a sportsman:

  • A sportsman has not competed in Open class previously.
  • A 2010 sportsman did not  recently win a DLG contest as a sportsman.

If you make the top 10, regardless of class, you will be in the flyoffs. In the past, only open Class pilots will be eligible for the Championship Fly-Off. All pilots will have the opportunity to compete against each other during the rounds of open competition. As such, each pilot must launch his/her own plane.

The IHLGF will follow the F3K published guidance for drop rounds. Depending on the number of preliminary rounds flown, pilots may have more than one round dropped.  The top ten pilots will be in the Championship Fly-Off and will carry their adjusted scores into the Fly-Off. Scores do not reset at the beginning of the Fly-Off.

One of the things that make the IHLGF so special is the social aspect. We begin informally on thursday night at Phil’s BBQ in Point Loma. After a day of warm up and practice  Friday, the evening ends with a “Post Practice Social” which will be held at the Hamburger Factory in Poway. Saturday evening we have an old fashioned “all you can eat” Pizza Party planned at Round Table Pizza in Poway. Sunday post contest is all you can eat sushi. We have posted a “social page” with details and directions. Lunch is included both Saturday and Sunday.

The field will be available beginning Thursday, April 29th, for practice. Toilet facilities will be available beginning Thursday. RV parking/ overnight camping will no longer be allowed at field. Please check the website as we update the lodging page. We will be posting information on camping, RV parking nearby, and accommodations later this week. On Friday we will host a clinic in the afternoon.

We have always been blessed with an array of international pilots from all parts of the globe and we look forward to even more international pilots attending the IHLGF this year and in the future. We love our international pilots! Not only are they great pilots but they are always great ambassadors for their countries. If there are an special needs from our international pilots please let us know how we can help you.

We look forward to you joining us for another great weekend of IHLGF competition and camaraderie.

2010 IHLGF Official Rules:

The 2010 IHLGF will follow 2010 FAI F3K rules unless explicitly stated below. All rules will be followed to the letter of the rule as published by the FAI. A jury will be convened by the CD prior to the contest as a measure to assist the pilot and CD if a formal protest is made by a pilot. Formal protests will only be accepted by the pilot, and must be made prior to the beginning to the next round.

The following are modifications made to the currently published landing rule.  The landing rule modification will be reviewed by the CD at the pilots meeting before the contest.

1st modification- The preliminary scores of the top 10 competitors will be carried into the flyoffs.  The preliminary scores will not be reset.

2nd – The landing rule clarification.  The current rules read,
